About Fat Dissolving Treatments

Injection of active ingredients
Following a consultation, a suitable product is injected into the agreed treatment area by an appropriately qualified practitioner. The product, intended use, evidence and possible risks should be explained before treatment.
Fat-cell breakdown
Some formulations, including deoxycholic acid-based products, work by disrupting fat-cell membranes. Products are not interchangeable: the ingredients and evidence for the particular treatment matter.
Natural clearance
Following fat-cell breakdown, the body gradually processes the affected tissue. This is a local treatment response, not a treatment intended to increase your overall metabolism or cause general weight loss.
Gradual reduction of fat
Changes develop over the weeks after treatment rather than immediately. Early swelling can temporarily obscure the result. Your practitioner will explain when to review your response and whether further treatment is appropriate.
Longer-term results
A reduction in treated fat may be long-lasting, but a permanent contour or specific outcome cannot be guaranteed. Weight changes, remaining fat cells, skin laxity and ageing can affect the appearance of the area over time.

The clinic’s general guide is around 4–6 weeks for visible changes, with assessment of the fuller result sometimes taking around 12 weeks. Timing depends on the selected product, treatment area and individual response; these times are not a guarantee.
How many sessions are required?
A course may be recommended. The clinic’s existing guidance suggests 2–4 sessions, often around 4–6 weeks apart, but this is not a schedule suitable for every product or person. Your practitioner will confirm the number and spacing after assessment and in line with the selected product’s instructions.
Is the treatment painful?
Injections can cause stinging, burning or discomfort. Swelling, bruising and tenderness may follow and can last longer than a few days. Your practitioner will explain suitable comfort measures and the recovery to expect for your treatment.
Are there any side effects?
Swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness, numbness or firmness can occur. More serious complications can include infection, persistent lumps, skin damage or scarring; the risks depend on the product, area and technique.
Your practitioner should discuss these risks and provide aftercare and contact details. Seek prompt medical advice for severe or worsening pain, spreading redness, fever, skin breakdown or other unexpected symptoms.
